English

Throughout the school the children are given extensive opportunities to develop their creative thinking and express themselves confidently in all areas of the English curriculum.  Reading and the appreciation of books is fostered, using an extensive range of reading material which is readily available.

A phonics-based approach is used in the Early Years department which ensures confidence with letter sounds and encourages the blending and segmenting of words at a young age.

Carefully structured and progressive lessons allow all the children to succeed in comprehension, grammar, spelling and creative writing.  In addition to the written aspect of English, the children also experience the practical elements such as reciting, discussing and debating.  They are also encouraged to participate in external competitions such as poetry recitals.

We take pride in our children’s achievements and their work is constantly on display.
